I recently wrote an article about the P90X program. I called on a few friends from the industry to add some of their comments. Below are the full responses from Michael Labuanan and Kri Chay. To read the full article, follow this link, http://torontowomensbootcamp.com/p90x-xxxposed/

I believe that a properly executed program can go a long way, but a program that done poorly can be detrimental to an individual. With that being said, I have seen and heard about many people getting hurt while using this program for one reason or another.
One being that the individual is using improper form, and he or she doesn’t know it. How can a video teach you the correct form without a hands on approach, yes they can show it to you and try to explain the safety ques, but no one is there to correct you if you are doing it wrong.
Second, You are not held accountable for your actions with a follow along video. An individual who plans on completing a video program with no one to ask questions too, or some kind of support system, can and usually will make some kind of an excuse about why he or she is not progressing or stop following all together.
Now when joining a private or group training program with a certified trainer, you have a support system, a knowledgeable instructor to help you along with a progressive approach the training program. In a group setting you have the support of other group members and you are also held accountable for your actions, not only by your peers but by your certified trainer as well. The group will also give you that extra motivation to reach new heights with every workout.

You have seen it! You maybe have tried it out. The world is talking about P90X. It’s a set of DVD’s that guide you to workout, get your butt kicked, and lose tons of weight. Is all this hype or does it really work??
I currently have over 200 clients. About 25% of them have either tried the fat burning program, and just about all of them have heard of it, but does it really work?
It comes with a 3-phase nutrition program, geared to rev up metabolism and burn fat. And 13 DVD’s that takes you and shows you exactly what to do in order to drop the weight.
First off, before joining any fitness program, you need to first ask yourself… “Do I really want to do this? Why do I want to do this? Can I dedicate 90 days of my life to this new fitness program?”
If you say “maybe” or “no” then this program isn’t for you. This is not for beginners.
Out of those clients of mine that have tried it… how many succeeded??
NONE.
I don’t know a single person who has started the DVD set and has finished it.
My girlfriend and her friend were gung ho with it for nearly 2 weeks, and they lost some weight (less than 5 lbs) but they got bored with it. Remember, the program is 90 days straight!! Can you do that?? Most people can’t… especially beginners.
Did they follow the 3-phase meal plan?? Hell no. They “knew” what they were doing because they were eating “good” and working out.
This DVD set lacks real accountability. The girls tried to keep each other accountable but when something came up or they were tired, they stopped working out.
Why did this happen?? I’ll tell you why. It wasn’t that they couldn’t physically do it, but mentally they didn’t want it bad enough. Improper set-up. Short term goals weren’t set, long term goals weren’t set, and other factors.
They depended on each other and when one got busy, the other didn’t do their workout either.
In fitness, you have to want it for YOURSELF and do it for yourself. It’s great to have a workout partner, but don’t depend on them. Set your goals, and stick to it.
You will never find time to workout… you have to MAKE time to workout.
Final thoughts: The p90x can work if you stick to it and follow all nutrition and exercises, but more than likely… the majority of people who try it out will not follow through and finish all 90 days.
You can try and prove me wrong and be the 0.1% of the population who finishes it.
Post all your workouts and nutrition on my Facebook Groups page daily, and let us all know how you’re doing. This will keep you accountable.
Have fun with it, if you’re doing it. Or else it’ll make an expensive paper weight.

Honey is one of those things, like aloe vera, that is a natural super hero. It seems as though honey can do just about anything! It can heal, it can sweeten, it can soothe, and it is just plain goodness.
Why is honey so fantastic? Well, the main reasons are that it is very good at killing bad bacteria, it can help ease constipation, it’s thick texture soothes sore throats, it’s healing powers are dynamite on cuts and other wounds, and above all, it’s sweet as… well, honey!
Doctors used to carry honey with them to put on wounds before bandaging them up, it is a great way to clean a wound without spending a lot of money on polysporin, which is full of chemicals, honey is natural! Place a drop on a band-aid to help heal the wound.
Honey can also be put into warm lemonade or chamomile tea to make a sore throat feel better. The honey and lemon will also help to kill off the bad bacteria and promote the good bacteria which will help fight off any cold viruses.
Honey will also promote good bacteria and help eliminate the bad bacteria in the intestinal tract. For this reason it can be beneficial during times of constipation.
Honey is actually sweeter than white sugar! It may contain equal or more calories than white sugar, but don’t be alarmed! Because honey is much sweeter than white sugar, so you often need less of it to get the same result, this will reduce your calorie intake. Another important difference is that honey is much easier for the body to transform into energy. Sugar takes longer to turn into energy and for this reason the body has more opportunity to transform it into fat instead. Honey, on the other hand, will transform into energy fast enough to avoid being turned into fat. So, if you’re watching your weight, put some honey in your coffee instead of sugar!
The best parts about honey are that it comes from nature, it’s not an expensive medication, and it’s sweet enough to put on and in everything from coffee to toast to tea!

This month I read “Complete Colon Cleanse: The At-Home Detox Program to Restore Good Health, Boost Vitality and Ensure Longevity”. A bit overwhelmed? Rest assured, it’s a long title but a relatively short book. I read through it quite quickly and was completely fascinated the whole time. This book really illuminates just what is going on down there in the dark basements of our bodies, and all from a philosophy of a holistic health practitioner, Dr. Edward F. Group III. Dr. Ed explains his philosophy has being based on regular cleansing of the body to maintain a toxic free environment for all the good stuff to function they way it needs to inside us. He explains that, unlike many doctors he observes in the medical profession, he does not believe in prescribing but rather teaching his patients how to heal themselves through cleansing and better lifestyle. This philosophy makes a lot of sense to me. I can’t remember the amount of times that doctors wrote me a prescription after only a 5 minute chat about my complaint, no real investigating into what the cause of my symptoms may be, just a scribbled note that only pharmacists can read.
Dr. Ed’s book is focused on colon health and cleansing, but he does a good job to explain the ways that a healthy colon affects the entire body. Also, how it is neglected, due to it’s kind of gross nature, and so is often an extremely unhealthy part of our bodies, even when we are super health obsessed people. The book has a lot of really valuable information as well as a cleansing plan specifically for the colon, but it would have benefits on other parts of the body as well.
All in all, I would highly recommend this book. It’s filled with facts that will blow you away, cleansing plans, pertinent information about the way we live and the affects it has on our bodies and detailed information about the way the colon operates and can break down when not taken care of. My only warning, maybe don’t pull it out in a public place, like the subway or a waiting room, it is also filled with a lot of pictures and diagrams of bowel movements and other kind of yucky stuff.

The Aloe Vera plant is the most closely related to the human body’s biochemistry! This plant is almost a person… no not at all, but because it functions so closely to the way that we function, it can be an extremely beneficial healing tool. I’m sure you’ve heard of the benefits of aloe vera on burns, but did you know that drinking aloe vera juice can have some powerful effects on your colon? Aloe vera can help the intestines to clean out accumulated stuff (for lack of a nicer word to call it). In the long run this can help to ease acid indigestion, bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, Candida, and many other malfunctions of the colon. And, aloe vera has never been proven to have any negative side effects! Sound a bit better than the over the counter laxatives from the drug store? It sure does to me.
